최종 수정일: 2024년 11월 5일

The 2024 IGC Research Showcase, a demonstration to our vibrant research culture, was held on May 10th at the IGC Auditorium. This unique academic event serves as a platform for communication and cooperation, fostering a sense of community among students, faculty, and researchers from five universities at Incheon Global Campus. With a participation of approximately 300 people, including about 100 teams of undergraduates and 35 teams of graduates or faculty from universities in IGC, the event was a celebration of collective knowledge and research capabilities on various topics.

The event took place from 9 am to 6 pm, and various sessions were held. The faculty oral talks were going on all day long, divided into four sessions with short coffee breaks. The following faculty from Mason Korea gave a speech in each session corresponding to their topics: Shannon N. Davis (Associate Dean for Faculty and Academic Affairs at George Mason University Korea), Yaman Erzurumlu (Assistant Professor of Business School at George Mason University Korea), Moon Joon Kim (Assistant Professor of Economics at George Mason University Korea), and Miriam Ahmed (Assistant Professor of graphic design at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA). In particular, Shannon N. Davis gave a talk about “Nature, Nurture, and Adult Gendered Selves: An Examination of Twin and Non-Twin Siblings.” To briefly introduce her presentation, her research aims to contribute to the conversation regarding the intersection of biological and social influences on gendered personality and beliefs through the investigation of twin vs non-twin siblings, family social environment, and individual experiences.

Sessions of student poster displays and student creative art & demonstrations were held from 1 pm to 5 pm, which was the time when students shared their research by actively moving around, presenting, and discussing. An award ceremony for outstanding research presentations by students was also held. Eye-catching works were selected through votes, which were conducted via QR codes that all research teams received. A total of five teams in the student poster display and student creative art & demonstrations were awarded trophies for their works. Among the many competing works, Mason Korea students (Hyunwoo Kim, Ryan Driggers, Selina Kim, Sojeong Kim, Yujin Kim) under the instruction of Professor Rod Rothwell, School of Business at George Mason University Korea, were ranked third for their research on the “Corporate strategy to attract more people to Instagram Reels.” One of their members, Yujin Kim, gave her impressions, “There were many other teams that produced outstanding posters, so I didn’t expect to win, but I’m grateful to receive this award on behalf of the school!”She added that since she participated in a team, she participated in many group discussions and learned a lot by sharing and supplementing ideas. She also mentioned that their team added a phrase after every presentation to please vote if you liked the research to make better use of the QR code voting system.

“The IGC Research Showcase is a platform to develop valuable presentation skills, receive constructive feedback, and refine your research projects,” says Madison Sailakkham, a George Mason University attendee of the event. “I think it’s a great way to see what my peers are doing to advance their own knowledge and expertise. It’s an event that IGC students can really benefit from.”
