Dr. Gregory Washington, President of George Mason University

Dr. Gregory Washington, the president of George Mason University, is scheduled to visit George Mason University Korea on August 24. According to the University Life Office, a Fairfax Townhall Meeting with President Washington will be held that day.
Preceded by the former president, Anne Holton, Dr. Washington became the eighth president of George Mason University (GMU) on July 1, 2020. Having studied mechanical engineering at North Carolina State University, Dr. Washington previously worked as the dean of the Henry Samueli School of Engineering at the University of California as well as the College of Engineering at Ohio State University. He has contributed to designing dynamic systems and smart materials, including self-driving vehicles.
President Washington founded the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Diversity Recognition Program and has been positioned as the chair of the ASEE Engineering Deans Council. He also serves for the United States Air Force Research Laboratory and National Science Foundation Directorate for Engineering Advisory Committees.
Following Dr. Washington’s appointment as the president of GMU, the percentage of student enrollment increased by 3.5%, while sponsored expenditures grew by 8%. Furthermore, with President Washington’s determination to prevent racism and create a safe campus environment, he began an Anti-Racism and Inclusive Excellence Task Force.
Many patriots hope that President Washington’s visit to Mason Korea would contribute to receiving better education and increasing student satisfaction on campus, bringing a new wave of change for the further advancement of Mason Korea.
