“All employees should always remind themselves that the IGC Foundation is maintained with students so that they must strengthen and improve their ability and competence.” highlighted Yu Pyung-ryun, the new CEO of IGC.
It has been four months since the new 6th Incheon Global Campus Foundation CEO, Yu Pyung-ryun, was appointed on October 26th, 2021. Prior to joining Incheon Global Campus (IGC), he received a master’s degree in public administration from New Haven University and a doctorate in urban planning from Inha University after obtaining a bachelor’s degree in trade at Kyung Hee University. As a public official in Incheon for 28 years, he has served in various positions. He served as an investment attraction officer, an international cooperation officer, and a policy planning officer in Incheon Metropolitan City, and undertook as secretary-general of the Incheon City Council and vice-commissioner of the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority. These careers will stabilize the systematic management of IGC and lead IGC to a healthy, sociable, and high education pursuing organization.
This new CEO was deeply impressed by the IGC value, providing education of prestigious universities worldwide to global students for building an international educational hub. In order to materialize the outstanding value, CEO Yu inspected the actual management status throughout the IGC. He had an inspection of every department office and met with student representatives to see the actual situation on the campus. As a result, he noticed several issues and improvement points that he could develop based on the IGC pursuit. Based on collected information, he has recently made improvements to Incheon Global Campus.
Improvement of campus life and facility
The new CEO stressed that students and professors freely unleash their potential and improve their skills only when the campus becomes their real home. In line with Yu’s vision, he replaced the canteen with a 24-hour convenience store. In addition, he directed to change all dormitory mattresses and the coin washing machine to a better ones for providing pleasant residential life to students. Also, Wi-Fi on the campus will be arranged so there would be no internet dead zone. Furthermore, students will soon meet the upcoming difference in the extended group study rooms in the library. IGC Foundation also planned to make club activity rooms in Multi Complex Building (MCB).
Improvement of communication for building a healthy campus community
The communication gap between IGC, especially IGC Housing, and students has continuously haunted the IGC community. The first movement of Yu was switching temporary positions of employees to regular status since frequent transitions of work and staff in IGC had made holes-communication gaps- in the entire structure. The job satisfaction of employees would naturally increase their sense of responsibility and the distinct responsibility could lead to the students’ convenience of living on campus. Furthermore, Yu plans to expand the usage of the IGC application on smartphones. On the lead of the IGC IT team, the IGC application would contain a student ID, the announcements from IGC, and services that students may ask for IGC to solve.
“For we must change, we don’t let the smallest words slip out of each individual of the campus community. A revolutionary change is in the near future if you have the initiative eyes and heart to bring improvement to the small things around us.”, said Yu Pyung-ryun, the new CEO of IGC.
2022 is the year that IGC Foundation faced its 10th anniversary and IGC management has been fully handed over to Incheon City from private consignment companies. Yu Pyung-ryun, our new IGC CEO, believes that a stabilized system would generate better services, and the developed high-quality service would increase students’ output. Moreover, IGC with new staff and management will soon reach its maturity, and students will finally be able to resolve their long agonized problems, the dissonance between IGC and students. Finally, the future of the IGC community is bright, receiving strong support from IGC Foundation and Incheon Metropolitan City within the Korean government.
