On November 6th, the Incheon Global Campus (IGC) Foundation hosted a campus-wide concert. Open to students and the public of Incheon, the Music Festival represented a breath of relief for an organization that has been marked by controversy recently. From the forced cancellation of the INK concert earlier in the year by Incheon city officials to numerous complaints about on-campus housing, the success of the Music Festival was a critical first step in restoring trust.
The Music Festival in many ways represented the IGC itself; a culmination of different cultures, efforts, and people all coming together to create something magical. Specifically, the event hosted musical and dance performances from groups from all the universities on the campus as well as the Korean musical duo 10CM, Korean-American rapper Jessi, and K-pop idol Ailee. While there were some problems throughout the night, such as performers starting their performances 30 minutes late, overall, the atmosphere of the Music Festival remained positive. This positivity was critical for the Incheon Global Campus as the event acted as a confirmation that, despite recent struggles, the foundation was capable of being successful in its endeavors. While concerns of housing inadequacies and funding inconsistencies remain, this success can provide citizens and students alike confidence to support the organization moving forward.
While the IGC Music Festival cannot erase the shortcomings of the foundation in the past, it does represent a turning point in its history. By showing the capability to create a hugely successful event, the foundation can slowly restore trust. While it is too soon to say if this trust will remain in the coming months, for now, the public of Incheon can sit back and enjoy their memories of the night.
