The Spring 2020 Registered Student Organization (RSO) Fair is upcoming on Monday, marking April 27th as one of the major events in George Mason University Korea. The event was postponed as all the face-to-face classes were replaced by online classes due to the coronavirus-19 (COVID-19) outbreak. Many club leaders are concerned and having difficulty recruiting new members and implementing club initiatives for Spring 2020.

The student leader of The Wings, a mock start-up club of GMUK, expressed her concerns about recruitment. Heyrin Ko (Management, 22') said, "We weren't able to recruit new freshmen members yet due to the COVID-19 outbreak." In The Wings, each member gives a presentation about his/her new business item and suggests how to apply the items in a real business field. Considering the features of the club, Ko stated that “For us, meeting online is ineffective to share enough opinions with members so that it makes it difficult to start club activities.” Moreover, Ko mentioned that “our long-term project plan is uncertain this semester since we couldn’t recruit new members yet.”

G-Bounce, GMUK dance club, also faces struggles due to the COVID-19 situation. Gyurin Roh (Finance, 23’), the president of G-Bounce, held an audition online for recruiting new members. However, Roh is perplexed that she needs to “delay their first face-to-face practice which is inevitable for the upcoming school events like the Incheon Global Campus Showcase on Mason Day that will be hosted by George Mason University Korea and The University of Utah Asia.”

Many RSOs in GMUK are having a hard time recruiting new members and starting their club activities due to the unprecedented COVID-19 situation. Despite the difficulties, the student organizations at Mason Korea are working diligently to make the best outcome possible instead of merely waiting for face-to-face meetings. They are proceeding with member recruitment and activity engagement and suggesting alternative plans to replace the previous initiative they had. In the case of The Wings, they are going to focus on the short-term projects and activities for mingling this semester rather than the long-term projects that they have initiated before.
