TikTok is now ranked as one of the top trending apps in 2020. It has been downloaded globally more than 1.5 billion times. TikTok, based primarily on Generation Z users, has been utilized as a platform for self-expression through diverse contents including lip-syncing or dancing. According to the Global Web Index, 41 percent of users of TikTok is between the ages of 16 and 24. Gradually, TikTok has emerged as an app not just for entertaining but also for other purposes.

TikTok was founded with two major intentions: inspiring creativity and bringing joy. Due to its rise in popularity, many industries have begun to use TikTok as part of their marketing strategy. Guess, an influential American clothing brand, launched the #InMyDemin Hashtag challenge by partnering with TikTok. According to TikTok Ads, this ad campaign has brought a positive impact on marketing with the 14.3% participation rate of this campaign. It also enhanced their brand affinity resulting in 12,000 additional followers in Guess’s official TikTok account.

Additionally, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic that stresses immensely on social distancing, TikTok has played an influential role by relieving people’s stress from the virus. According to the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund’s official website, they suggested joining TikTok challenges as one of the novel pathways to protect teenagers’ mental health during self-quarantine.

Moreover, considering the majority of juvenile users on this app, the World Health Organization has planned to upload up-to-date information regarding the COVID-19 crisis with the purpose of enhancing their awareness on the platform.

TikTok is not simply a video-taking app that limits to 15 to 60 seconds but also motivates people’s creativity through the editing process. It alters the lifestyles of modern people astoundingly as well as affecting the brand's marketing strategy. According to Business of Apps, an app analytics service, it shows TikTokers spend roughly 52 minutes on the app each day. This proves why TikTok is one of the most trending applications in 2020 to many people.
