On May 26, 2020, Dean John T. Crist, an Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, announced the changed academic policy which will be applied to Mason Korea students who make a transition to the Fairfax campus in Spring and Fall 2020 semesters. The announcement introduced exceptions that will be applied only for the Spring and Fall 2020 semesters. Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mason Korea students expect to meet issues in receiving student visas, meeting self-quarantine requirements, fulfilling prerequisite courses, and the availability of on-campus housing. To lessen the burdens of the students, the alternative policy allows that the students registered for the Spring and Fall 2020 semesters will meet the academic requirements once they completed the courses successfully regardless of the location and stay at Fairfax. Resuming face-to-face classes at George Mason Fairfax campus is still uncertain which escalates the possibility of online classes if the pandemic is not stabilized.

Following the alternative policy, the Office of Academic Affairs at Mason Korea

offered three options for the students considering the transition to the George Mason Fairfax campus. The first option is that students can start or continue studying at the Fairfax campus in Fall 2020. To obtain a student visa, the students can contact the Office of Student Affairs the soonest and prepare for the processes. The second option is to reschedule the transition period for the Spring 2021 semester or later. The students can take courses at Mason Korea in Fall 2020 or apply for a leave of absence. Third, the students stay in Korea and can take online courses on the Fairfax campus. If the online courses do not meet the academic requirements, the students will finish their degree at Fairfax during or after Fall 2021 semester.

With uncertainties triggered by the COVID-19 situation, George Mason Korea

strives to stay flexible with multiple discussions and alternative academic plans. The Mason Korea students are recommended to consult with their academic advisors to organize future academic plans to continue study at Mason.
