Distinguished guests pose for the group picture at the opening ceremony of " The History of Psychiatry and Art Brut, The Origin" exhibition.
On the night of the 23rd of November, machinery sounds echoed through the hallways of GMUK. Students were yet to be surprised to see the transformation that occurred during the night. The next morning, guests with black suits and nicely tailored outfits filled the global lounge to commemorate the first Capital Campaign, an event to thank the supporters and donors for George Mason University Korea. Students who had Friday classes were then met with the guests, but also surprised to see a new large artistic painting on the wall instead of the originally hanged directory. Next to the gigantic painting that took up the whole wall was two more pieces of art, bringing a new sense of feeling instead of the dull, empty walls. Nevertheless, no one had a clue who brought the pieces of art and why they were placed suddenly ahead of the Capital Campaign. Thus, The Voice went into cover the background story of the paintings on the first floor to solve the studentsโ curiosity.
Going into the fourth year since GMUK has first opens its doors, students have been demanding for more opportunities for scholarships. Demands for scholarships were widely spoken through many interactions with Dr. Lee, the President of GMUK. Nonetheless, with the overwhelming building rent fee and increasing operational costs due to the rising student body, GMUK could not afford to input more into student scholarships with its tuition-based budget. Therefore, understanding that meeting the studentsโ demands is essential, GMUK has been opening its doors to individual and cooperate donors.
Amongst the donors, Versi Museum is a significant partner. From November of 2017, GMUK has been meeting with Versi Museum and cooperating at a very satisfying pace. The first interplay was donating pieces of art to GMUK. The three pieces of art hanged onto the originally barren walls of the first floor was generously given by Versi Museum. In response to the donation, GMUK has agreed to help promote Versi Museumโs โThe Originโ exhibition located in Hongdae, Seoulโs meca for urban art and indie culture. โThe Originโ opened in Hongdae Sangsang-madang on March 3rd, and The Voice of GMUK and the Office of Strategic Initiatives was present at the site, supporting the filming and recording of the Opening Ceremony and the exhibiton. GMUKโs relationship with Versi Museum does not end here, as the promotion of the museum will extend to GMUK. In between May and June, Versi Museum plans to hold an exhibition in GMUK, and profit from the exhibition will be collected to be used as scholarships for students studying at GMUK. GMUK hopes to continue its relationship with Versi Museum and keep its partnership toward a positive future.
