COVID-19, sweeping through 2020, has left most of the world trapped in despair. There are people who succeeded by trying hard even in a severe situation where their livelihoods are threatened by the pandemic. One company with these people is “Clear Win Korea”.
Clearwin, the main product that put Clear Win Korea on a track of success after the pandemic, is the first powerless self-generated ultraviolet sterilizer installation to escalator handrail. While other sanitation devices had existed before, they had numerous limitations including the usage of various chemicals. Therefore, Clearwin had already been recognized abroad for its technical quality right after its release. Before the pandemic, it was hard for Clear Win Korea to persuade new customers the need for their product because not many cared about the cleanness of escalator handrails. Dealing with financial burden starting in 2014, the company was forced to file for bankruptcy in 2019. The company thought about selling their 19 patents around the world, but with all the efforts and investments they put in, they decided to stay in business for one more year. Shortly after, with the global pandemic, the heightened hygiene problem drove worldwide attention to Clear Win Korea. Before COVID-19, the company would produce 3,000 units per month. However, due to global demand, they have increased production to 7,000 units per month. Based on the production trend, the company expects to sell 20,000 units this year, 8 billion won (USD 6.7 million) in sales this year. The company is planning to expand additional plants in the first half of next year due to continuous requests for supply. If that happens, the supply will likely be able to catch up with demand by securing a production capacity of 15,000 units per month. Even in the nightmare that has been the COVID-19 pandemic, Clearwin in Korea is still chasing its dreams. Many people in 2020 lost hope and are suffering from the pandemic. However, through the success story of Clear Win Korea, we can change our perspective on the 2020 pandemic.
